When we visit a place or move to a new city, we can often feel overwhelmed by the many rules and procedures we need to follow. Most of the times, we have more questions than answers…

As the city of Barcelona became aware of this problem, it wanted to create something to make basic information more accessible, and so it started a free telephone number called 010. If you are an expat who just came to live in Barcelona, this number will help you with information on municipal services, facilities and events.

What is 010 and when to use it

Barcelona_010 is a service managed by the Barcelona City Council Customer Service Department. It aims to help citizens resolve any doubts or questions they have about the city of Barcelona.

You can call 010 if you have questions on the following subjects:

  • Events and activities in the city with their addresses, times and ticket sales
  • Addresses, telephone numbers and opening hours of municipal facilities and services
  • General information on the most common procedures in the city

If you want to request a tips renting an accommodation, service, file a complaint, or want to report an incident, you should visit www.bcn.cat and fill in the required fields.

Calling telephone number 010 was initially not free, but as from April 1, 2017 the Generalitat budgeted funds for this service. This made using it from that date on free of charge, and the service was also published in the BOE (Boletín Oficial del Estado) on 31 January 2017.

Telephone number 010 is a general and municipal information service on events, facilities and services within the metropolitan area of the city of Barcelona. If you live in a different city and need information on Barcelona, you can call 931537010 at a regular cost for calls from outside the metropolitan area.

The municipalities from which you can call telephone number 931537010 are: Badalona, Barcelona, Castelldefels, Cornellà de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat, Gavà, Molins de Rei, Montgat, Pallejà, El Papiol, El Prat de Llobregat, Ripollet, Sant Adrià del Besòs, Sant Andreu de la Barca, San Boi, Sant Joan Despí, Sant Just Desvern, Santa Coloma de Cervelló, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Sant Vicenç dels Horts, Torrelles de Llobregat and Viladecans.

It is clear that the Barcelona City Council has set up this important and practical service to help you answer any questions you might have on, for example, what concerts will take place in the city this weekend and where to buy tickets for it, how to register in Barcelona, where to find a notary, what the telephone number of the nearest library is or how much the entrance fee for the Sagrada Familia is.

Customer service 010 can be contacted every day of the year, from Monday to Sunday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.. It is good to know what number to call when you need information on subjects related to the Catalan capital. (Note: Although the website www.bcn.cat is also available in English, when you visit a municipal office or call 010, you will probably need some knowledge of the Spanish or Catalan language to have all your questions answered.)
