10 of the best spots for art in Barcelona

Barcelona is renowned for its art, most notably the work of the incredible Antoni Gaudí. Whilst its fair to say that the Gaudí Museum and Park Güell are very impressive, there is plenty more in the way of art to see in Barcelona. In my opinion, it can be hugely rewarding to venture away from the tourist trail and seek out some of the less known art that Barcelona has to offer. Accordingly here are my top 10 spots to see art in Barcelona.

Cosmo art gallery and cafe

If you visit this cafe and art gallery in the lovely L’Eixample region, you will get a chance to see some quirky and contemporary art whilst enjoying some great food, it’s also a great spot to get your laptop out and catch up on some work.

Àngels Barcelona

This experimental art experience situated in Raval offers visitors the chance to see some internationally recognised artists such as Joan Fontcubertain, who is currently running an exhibition composed of printed cards which have been corroded by the action of snails!

Barcelona Street style art tours

With tours in El Born, the Gothic Quarter and Raval, Barcelona street style tour is a great way to see the best of Barcelona’s urban art.  Alternatively, you can take part in their  bike tour, which offers art enthusiasts the chance to spend a morning riding through Poble Nou, witnessing all the street art the area has to offer.

Museu Frederic Marès

The museum is housed in the old Royal Palace of the Counts of Barcelona in the heart of the Gothic Quarter and holds the collections assembled by its founder, sculptor Frederic Marès, who was famous for his religious sculptures.

Bencini Barcelona

Bencini Barcelona was opened in Santa Caterina by Federico Bencini and Raúl Pernia. Between the two, the artists have created a magnificent gallery consisting of monotype prints and floral sculptures.

Eat Meat

Found on Carrer de l’Alzina, a small street in Gracia, this unique art gallery is famous for displaying some grotesque art forms expressing amputations, hybrids and deformities.

Galeria Trama

This trendy art gallery near Liceu is dedicated to contemporary art, housing pieces from internationally acclaimed artists as well as some from some less known emerging artists.

ADN

ADN, or DNA in English is an art gallery in the bustling L’Eixample region which offers the chance for visitors to see work from artists working in the socio-political realm.

Galeria 3 Punts

Also in L’Eixample  this gallery promotes all forms of contemporary art. The gallery organizes 7 or 8 individual art exhibitions a year. Further information on each can be found on their website.

Esther Arias Galería de Arte y Taller

This gallery, housed in an inviting 18th-century building, exposes work of artist Esther Arias. Her collection of intriguing and abstract canvas paintings are definitely worth seeing and there is also a chance to buy some smaller paintings by the artist for a reasonable price.
