Discover Barcelona With Sport
Of course, if you mention the words ‘Barcelona’ and ‘Sport’ the first thing that springs to mind is Barcelona football team. Unless you are one of the 3 people in the world that don’t follow football, at least.
Like most European countries, football is the most common sport and people here are fanatical about the ‘beautiful game’ possibly more so than in other European cities. Visits to Camp Nou, the home of Barca, are a popular attraction amongst tourists.
But, apart from the ubiquitous sport, Barcelona is also home to many other sporting activities that can be enjoyed throughout much of the year, due to the unbeatable climate.
Cycling
Cycling is a very popular pastime in the city of Barcelona and is taken quite seriously. Possibly due to the undulating hills that form the green belt at the back of the city and involve calves of steel.
If you are less inclined to inclines, then head up to Carretera de les Aigues (which can be reached by metro and funicular) and there are kilometres of fairly flat track and fabulous vistas of the entire city to be enjoyed.
Volleyball
The balmy Mediterranean climate also loans itself to volleyball – or anything else that can be done on the beach.
The beach at Nova Icaria in particular is a great place to take part in the sport and there are also many meet-ups (meetup.com) that you can join if you want to get involved but have no one to play with. Boo hoo.
No, not that sort. We’re talking boats, yachts, sails, and rigging. If you are a tar at heart, have crew experience, or have never even put on a pair of deck pumps, let alone tied a cleat hitch, then Barcelona is the place for you.
There are many skippers about the dock happy to captain a vessel for the day and teach you the ropes, or if you are already a competent seafaring type, you can hire a boat for yourself.
Whatever sport you are in to, whether it’s running, soccer, sailing, kayaking, or skating – Barcelona will not disappoint you. Often meetup.com is a good place to start looking for other people of a like mind.
I am a right forward player and I am leaving in girona in Spain am ready to join a club.
Thank you.
