Written by Damien

People who want a taste of typical nightlife in Barcelona should make their way to the Plaça Reial (“Royal Plaza”), situated just off Las Ramblas, in the center of the city.

Plaça Reial has someone for everyone at all times of the day or night, be it either to enjoy the local cuisine at one of the many traditional Spanish and Catalan restaurants or check out the action  at one of the many nightclubs in the square regarded as being  among  Barcelona’s best.

Anyone, and for any reason, who has the opportunity to spend some time living in Barcelona will need to find themselves a place to live. For those who like to be close to the action renting Barcelona apartments within close vicinity to Plaça Reial are usually difficult to find, meaning that you have to call in the experts. And among the longest-running and most experienced agencies dealing exclusively in Barcelona apartment rentals are ShBarcelona who will always have a trick or two to up their sleeves when it comes to finding the ideal long term rental barcelona apartment to meet anyone’s needs.

The Plaça Reial was designed by Francesc Daniel Molina i Casamajó in the 19th century, the center of the square is dominated by a large  iron fountain named “Tres Gràcies” (Three Graces) that was desiGned by Antoni Rovira i Trias around the same period as well as two large and highly imposing lanterns,  designed by famous local sculptor Antoni Gaudí, designed to convey a message of  the heroism of medieval Catalan conquerors. Despite the fact that the Plaça Reial underwent a complete renovation in 1982 all of the famous landmarks have remained intact.

Well known for its many outdoor venues during the summer months as well as hosting the annual La Mercè city festival in September, with the home on seeing an endless succession open air concerts, featuring local and international talent, every weekend the Plaça Reial rapidly converts itself into an open  market where collectors of both coins and stamps congregate to compare their albums.

Most evenings, and especially as the weekend approaches, the Plaça Reial become the center for nightlife, with the square’s many nightclubs and pop venues attracting thousands of visitors all year round.

Last but not least when it comes to major celebrations such as New Year’s Eve or Barcelona winning the Champions League again, Barcelonans as one congregate on the square and the celebrations can go on till Dawn.
