Living in Barcelona

Finding Home Improvement Supplies in Barcelona

Written by Mario

If you’ve been living in Barcelona for some time, chances are you’ll need to repair something in your flat or want to make some renovations. Here in Barcelona, you have a wide variety of specialty stores to choose from, everything from general hardware, flooring, lighting, and more. However, if you have multiple changes or want a wider selection it may be frustrating to jump between specialty stores.

Here is a short guide to help you navigate your hardware shopping options!

Local and Specialty Shops

If you need a quick repair or smaller renovation, a good place to start with is your local bazaar, where you can get the basic tools, glue, screws, and even some bathroom and lighting fixtures. If you need a wider selection or some power tools you can go to the local hardware stores (ferreteria). For specialty items like lighting (luz) or flooring (pavimentos), you may find one near you as well. You can try a quick Google search, yet your best bet is to ask a local or look around your neighborhood.

Department Stores

If you’d like a variety of hardware supplies, lighting supplies, power tools, furniture, and more you can try either Carrefour or HiperCor. These department stores also have sections for bedding and products for your car. There are two large Carrefours in Barcelona, one by Glories and another by Fira. HiperCor is by Fabra I Puig.

Still Need More?

The options mentioned above may or not have what you’re looking for. Especially if you need building supplies like lumber you will need to go to the big hardware stores in Barcelona. These have several floors of supplies and should suffice for any of your larger renovation projects. In the city center you can go to Servei Estacio near metro stop Passeig de Gracia. It’s accessible by Line 2, Line 3, Line 4, or FGC (local train).

Carrefour HardwareNearby you’ll also find BriCor, at Plaza Catalunya. Your third option is Bauhaus, which is near Montjuic, FGC stop Magòria-La Campana. Bauhaus offers delivery, provides installation, paint mixing, and woodcutting.

You can also check some online stores like houzz.es, ferreteria.es, or amazon.es.

Installation and assembly

Just in case you need help assembling or installing what you bought, ask your friends to recommend a good handyman.
