Hibernian Books

This is the only secondhand English bookshop in Barcelona. From Kant to Osho, from English textbooks to literature classics, this shop has a great variety to offer. With the help of friends and family, the owners opened this bookshop in 2004, offering mainly second-hand books but also new books and overstock (almost new but with a discount). They have a website but you will be better served going directly to the store since their online listing is very slowly updated. When visiting, keep in mind that they do not accept credit cards. Also, if you happen to have a book that you don’t want anymore, you can bring it to Hibernian Books and they will give you store credit it for it.

Location: Carrer del Montseny, 17

Business hours: Monday from 4 pm to 8:30 pm, and from Tuesday to Saturday from 11 am to 8:30 pm.

Re-Read

With nine low-cost bookshops in Barcelona, Re-Read is the biggest cheap book chain store, for frugal readers. Following the bulk-purchase logic, the more you buy at Re-Read, the less you pay per item – one book costs 3€, two books cost 5€, and five books cost 10€. This is great news for those who want to fill that empty shelf in their houses. The idea behind this bookstore is that they want to give books a second life. Their stock is constantly changing and, in fact, you can help that change along, because they also buy books for 0,20€ a piece.

Location: Passeig de Sant Joan, 152, and Gran Via de Les Corts Catalanes, 564, among other locations.

Business hours: From Monday to Friday from 10 am to 8:30 pm, and Saturdays from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, and then from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Tuuulibreria

This little bookstore really stands out among the crowds of bookstores in the city. Their business model is very unique: you take as many books as you can carry in one hand (but not more than 7) and pay what you think they are worth. The bookstore is divided into many different categories like social science, art, and history, novels, and languages. This great variety is accompanied by a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and a spacious interior. Tuuulibreria is located next to Plaça del Sol, a great place to sit and spend some time reading your new books.

Location: Carrer del Planeta, 17

Business hours: Every day of the week from 12 pm to 8 pm.
