A nice bit of sculpture – art in Barcelona

If you are looking for things to do in Barcelona and you are partial to a bit of art; you are only visiting Barcelona for its culture; or even if you’re a total philistine with some time to waste on a rainy day, then the Museo Europeo de Arte Moderno, currently has exactly what you are looking for.

As an art form, sculpture tends to take a backseat whilst painting sits in the front seat, waving to its fans and enjoying all the attention.

However, sculpture is a medium that is currently enjoying a renaissance as more and more art galleries feature both traditional and contemporary sculptures as part of their permanent exhibits.

In an exhibition entitled ‘A Bit of Sculpture’ which can be viewed between now and 10th October 2014, the medium of sculpture is being very much celebrated and given the attention it thoroughly deserves.

The Museo Europeo de Arte Moderno (MEAM – Barra de Ferro 5, 08003) is displaying works from the melodramatic sculptor of the nineteenth century – Paul-Albert Bartholome; animal sculptures courtesy of Francois Pompon; Alfredo Pina’s disquieting busts of iconic figures from the worlds of music and literature; along with sculptures from Charles Malfray and Auguste Rodin. There are over 300 exhibits ranging from abstract to realism in mediums such as marble, bronze, clay and plaster, with something, as they say, for everyone.

This is one of the best displays of sculpture in Barcelona with a diverse range of sculpture that celebrates European styles. If you love art (or it’s raining) – this is one attraction not to be missed.
