The Adrià brothers and the Poble Sec neighborhood

Who are the Adrià brothers?

The Adrià brothers enjoy an exemplary career and are known worldwide. The older brother, Ferran Adrià, is the creator of one of the famous “El Bulli”. Holding 3 Michelin stars, this restaurant remained open between 1961 and 2011, gaining worldwide success. It was named, on 5 different occasions the best restaurant in the world, pushing the Adrià brothers to the forefront of the culinary scene.

The youngest of the brothers, Albert Adrià, was the pastries master for many years in the famous family restaurant. He stood out for its technical talent in pastry-making and earned the status of best pastry chef in the world, given by the famous World’s Best Pastry Chef Award in 2015.

The two brothers decided to invest in Poble Sec, a popular district in Barcelona. This gastronomic investment has given a real boost to the area: tourists from all over the world are coming over to taste their dishes. According to Chef Albert Adrià, who is from Barcelona city, opening his restaurant in the Catalan capital is also “a way to show that he loves his city and wants to give life to it”.

Adrià brothers’ restaurants in Barcelona

Almost all of the duo’s restaurants are located around  Carrer de Blai.

Tickets is one of the 50 best restaurants in the world, which means you have to book or table over a month in advance. The restaurant is a show of its own, where you can eat with your fingers surrounded by a decoration that reminds you of a circus. You will eat work-of-art tapas showing a genuine inspiration from the worldwide gastronomy.

Location: Avenida del Paral-lel, 164

Patka is specialized in Japanese and Peruvian cuisine. Its name means “union” in Quechua, the official language of the natives. You can try a tasting menu or à la carte menu cooked with seasonal products only. Unlike Tickets, you can reserve a table for the same week.

In Bodega 1900, the Catalan traditions are in the spotlight: you can taste delicious dishes, served in an atmosphere evocative of the early 20th century. Do not miss their famous leek with truffles, crispy potatoes with vermouth sauce and chocolate pie.

Location: Carrer de Tamarit, 91

Both Niño Viejo and Hoja Santa serve Mexican food, with the very Adrià brothers’ twist. Both of the restaurants are located at Avenida de Mistral, 54.
