Skiing is the preferred winter sport for many people, and contrary to popular belief, a day of skiing with your family doesn’t always cost your arm and your leg. In Catalonia, there are a number of ski spots that aren’t limited to just those who are willing to drop big bucks on a ski day. Beginners, those who only ski every so often and those who are more content with a cheaper option don’t necessarily need to go to the best of the best ski areas to get in their run. Overall, what’s best for one person isn’t always what’s good for another, and lesser-known ski resorts aren’t bad option for many people, as they are much more economically friendly and less overcrowded, making the snow conditions better for everyone. One of the closest skiing areas to Barcelona is found at Port del Compte. This little-known resort is situated in the Solsónes region and has 38 different runs for visitors to enjoy, and with a lower number of tourists than other resorts, it’s one of the least crowded ski spots near Barcelona. You can check out their different prices on their website, but to give an overview, they offer daily pass during the high season for €36, with special deals for children and discounts if you buy a pass for multiple days. They offer all the services you could need as well as a variety of activities apart from skiing. Furthermore, it’s nestled in a beautiful area with stunning views of the mountains and surrounding landscape. It is also close to a number of small towns and villages with rich cultural heritage due to the many Romantic churches, bringing a certain magical feel to the area. Another affordable ski option we want to tell you about is La Molina, located two and a half hours from Barcelona by car. Located in Cerdanya in the Catalan Pyrenees, this area has 70 km of skiing space divided up among 66 runs with options for all levels.

Although La Molina is a bit smaller than the slopes at Port del Comte, it’s a bustling ski area during the high season. La Cerdanya is one of the preferred areas among Barceloneses to spend weekends and winter vacations, turning it into one of the most popular areas for skiing. This is a modern ski area that is equipped with all kinds of services, including activity areas especially for young children in the family. The price for a day pass for adults is €40, although you can also find cheaper options for a half-day pass and other combined options for various days as well as passes for families. You can view all the ski pass options on their website. Lastly, you’ll find our final affordable ski spot recommendation close to the town of Queralbs, called La Vall de Núria. This Pyrenees valley holds a small ski station with runs for beginners and intermediate skiers, making it a great option for those that are just starting out as ski aficionados. In addition, it’s located only two hours from Barcelona by car, and the price of the pass plus a ride on the zip train starts at €30/day for adults, with special deals for families, groups and kids.
