For those who love architecture you will find that Barcelona is able to offer you things that are very diverse. Of course a visit to the city wouldn’t be complete without taking in some of that designed by Antoni Gaudi, but why not explore some of the city’s more contemporary and modern contributions this autumn.

Unlike any other city you will find that it has been able successfully to blend the old and new in ways that help to make this simply beautiful. You will find nothing more enjoyable then spending a few hours wandering around the streets of the city (when the weather is good) and taking in the atmosphere that radiates out from the buildings.
However it isn’t about the way the buildings look, Barcelona has gained praised from other architects because of the way in which the city has been planned. As you walk around the city you will notice that the buildings on the corners have flat edges (chamfered corners). These in turn help to give the crossroads where they are located a much more open feel to them and provides enough space to allow for terraces on the street corners. In turn this helps to make the city much more sociable.
Next you should move on to the area of the city known as Raval and which is actually extension of the original part of the city. Here you will find that the streets are slightly wider and allowing more light to enter in to them. Then finally head for the area of Barcelona known as Eixample. What you will notice that this part of the city has a much larger grid structure that helps to keep things well organised. Because of the way in which these areas have been laid out you will find that exploring them isn’t that difficult and the risk of you getting lost is very minimal.
Yet even though each area of the city is connected to the other they still retain their very own distinctive and unique character, which helps to create such a beautiful atmosphere throughout the city.
