Argentona is located at the base of a small mountain, making it a popular spot for bikers, hikers, and runners. Starting at the base of the mountain you can hike to the top at a good pace and arrive in about an hour. At the top, you will find the Castell Burriac, a fortress that dates all the way back to 1017! There are many routes that you can take along the mountain to observe not only the nature but the natural fountains like the Font Picant and the Font del Mig. There are many homes for rent here, as there are short-term rentals in Barcelona, so that you can extend your stay and discover the natural wonder and beauty of the Burriac.

Enjoy the Festa Major

Coming up quick on the calendar is the Festa Major, or the biggest party of the year to celebrate all things Argentona. Celebrated during the first week of August, the Festa Major is an opportunity for the town to gather and enjoy music, dancing, art, and much more. This year the celebration begins on Wednesday, August 3rd and concludes on Saturday the 5th. Past events have included live music, theater, and workshops for kids and families. Also, on August 4th, there will be the Festa del Càntir, an exhibition of ceramics and the day in which you will catch the Catalan gegants, in addition to other traditions. There are also sports events, dances, and plenty of food to be enjoyed during this 4-day celebration.

One of the main tourist attractions in Argentona is the Museu del Càntir. The symbol of Argentona is the water jug, or càntir, as a thanks to the patron saint of the city, Sant Doménech, and the natural water fountain named after him. The museum collects ceramic pieces from all over the world which can be seen on display Tuesday-Sunday. The museum also has ceramics workshops throughout the year that are offered to the public. No visit to Argentona is complete without buying a small water jug or other pieces of ceramic art from the museum’s gift shop to remember your trip!

Eat at El Celler

One of the best restaurants in town is El Celler, which specializes in traditional Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine. This restaurant is worth taking a trip from the city if you are staying in Barcelona with ShBarcelona, so be prepared to be amazed. The restaurant itself is housed in an old house of the typical old Catalan style, so you will feel as if you are right at home in grandma’s kitchen. Some house favorites are Catalan classics like canelons ans fideuà, in addition to featuring seafood and ingredients from the surrounding areas. This restaurant is on the pricier side but will be an unforgettable gastronomic experience!
