Arnold Classic Barcelona, the world’s best bodybuilders

If you live in Barcelona, hold on to something, because the ground is about to (protein) shake – this September, on the weekend of 23 to 25, the Fira Gran Via Barcelona will host the European edition of the renowned Arnold Classic.

What to expect

Named after arguably the most famous bodybuilder of all time, legendary actor and former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Arnold Classic is the most important yearly event in the sport of bodybuilding.

Expect a festival environment that caters to fans and practitioners of bodybuilding and other related fitness philosophies. There will be a large exhibition space dedicated to the fitness lifestyle and showcasing the latest industry products. There you will find booths from all the leading companies in the fields of nutrition, healthy eating, sports supplements, training equipment, sportswear and others.

Pro Show

The main attractions of the weekend will be the finals of both the Professional Bodybuilding Championship (men) and Fitness competition (women), which will take place on Saturday at 7 PM. Bodybuilding might seem like a sport without a lot of actual “action”, and that is because it’s all about showmanship – other than turning yourself into one of the fittest human beings on the planet, of course. Expect spectacular performances from each competitor, adorned by a lot of music, lights and, of course, a great amount of flexing and posing. Watching the competition in person will be none other than the classic bodybuilder himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who will also be around for a meet & greet with the fans the next day.

The Venue

Address: Avenida Joan Carles 1, 64, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat

One of the city’s many architectonic highlights, Fira Gran Via Barcelona is a modern exhibition and conference centre designed by award-winning Japanese architect Toyo Ito. Harmonizing cutting-edge aesthetics and environmental sensitivity, it’s a versatile space for event organizers and a very enjoyable one for visitors. The Arnold Classic EXPO will take place at its Pavillion 2, which has an area of over 30.000m2.

How to get there – The venue is easily accessible using public transportation. First, get to the Espanya metro station using either the Red (L1) or the Green line (L3). From there, take the FGC train and exit on Europa or Fira.

Tip – If you’re driving there and using a map or a GPS, be careful not to mix up Avenida Joan Carles 1 (right address) with Gran Via Carles III (totally different place).

Tickets

If you’re only interested in the EXPO, a 3-day pass will cost you 30€. For the Pro Show on Saturday, you need a separate ticket which is also priced at 30€. A bit more expensive, but perfect for those who aren’t into bodybuilding and just want to shake hands with the terminator, the cheapest tickets for the meet & greet cost 50€.

That’s it, pretty much all you need to know to enjoy the fittest weekend of the year in Barcelona. Are you going to the Arnold Classic? Tell us all about it using the comment box below.
