  Visit Montserrat (main photo). The monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat is a Benedictine abbey, located in the Montserrat mountain range. This mountain range belongs to the Bages region in the province of Barcelona. It lies 720 metres above sea level. And even more specifically, it is located in the municipality of Monistrol de Montserrat. It is a symbol for Catalonia, and for many people of faith it has become a place of significance on their pilgrimage. Tourists interested in knowing more about the spiritual past and present of Catalan people should absolutely pay this monastery a visit.

• Tibidabo Amusement Park. This is one of the most charming and historic amusement parks, and it enjoys the best views of Barcelona. You can find it in the Collserola hills in the district of Sarrià-Sant Gervasi. It is the oldest operating amusement park in Spain, the third oldest in Europe, and it is actually one of the most historic amusement parks in the whole world. There are some vintage attractions that give it a special charm, but you will also find modern and exciting attractions. Its house of horror is one of the most famous you will encounter in Catalonia.

  Visit Montjuïc Castle. This is an old military fortress, located on Montjuic mountain, in the upper part from Plaça España. This fortress belonged to the Spanish Army, although it was later handed over to the city council, who still manages it today. On a historic note, the castle has played an important part at various moments in Barcelona’s past. This monument has extensive gardens surrounding it, and you can enjoy some spectacular views of the sea and the city of Barcelona.

Several bars near this location have terraces, from where you can witness a perfect sunset and relax during warm summer nights. You can also opt for a guided visit to Montjuïc Castle, which lasts about one hour. The tour allows you to discover the history and architecture of the castle, while visiting places that are normally not open to the public, such as the dungeons, the watchtower and the water reservoir.
