Barbeque basics in Barcelona

Who doesn’t love a barbeque?! And in Barcelona, the climatic conditions are simply ideal for enjoying some grilled food washed down with plenty of cervezas and laughs with friends. But where can you go in Barcelona to enjoy a good old BBQ?

The laws around barbecues in Barcelona

Even if you are lucky enough to have access to a roof terrace, generally it is best avoided to light up the grill here unless you are absolutely sure you can. The laws and restrictions are not exactly clear but it is apparently illegal to have a BBQ within the parameters of Barcelona city. At the very least, you would be advised to consult your neighbours in the first instance, as they may or may not be happy with the idea of a barbecue on their roof.

But don’t let that deter you from organising some BBQ fun, as there are a few great spots in and around Barcelona where you can enjoy BBQ facilities in idyllic locations. Barbecues in natural surrounding always have an added element of fun and adventure. So why not gather together your friends, your food, and head out of the city to a Barcelona Barbacoa destination, where you will find your BBQ equipment there waiting for you. All you have to do is purchase the food and drinks and you are good to go. Here are a couple of easy to reach, fuss-free, options.

Font Les Planes – El Merendero

Located in the village of Les Planes, just a 15-20 minute train journey on the FGC from Barcelona, you will find the large and lively El Merendero. There is a bar-restaurant and also a merendero (merendero meaning picnic area) in this fantastic location amidst the nature and beauty of the Collserola Park. Here you can rent seats, grills and all other equipment for a few euros per hour. It is open year-round from 9am to 7pm. There is also a bar making sure you are never left thirsty. So the only essential things to carry are the food items!

Parc de la Trinidad

Within even easier reach is Parc de la Trinidad, which you can get to by Metro L1, station “Trinitat Vella”. Here you can find a modern urban recreation area with barbecue and picnic zone. Again all the equipment can be rented and all you have to do is take your food and drink of choice.
Although located amid fairly well used roads, the space is still peaceful and well serviced. There are also sports pitches. So you may be able to combine your BBQ with some other fun activities.
