The new Camp Nou: What will Espai Barça look like?
Espai Barça will be true architectural treasure and an incredible and unique area for football fans. The ambitious project entails the complete renovation of the mythical Camp Nou, but also its surroundings will be taken care of. All for the best experience for visitors.
Some of the most outstanding features will be a stadium that will be able to welcome more than 105,000 spectators (the largest capacity in Europe), as well as cutting-edge technology to provide an unforgettable experience.
For example, there will be a retractable roof which measures more than 30,000 square meters, high-resolution led video scoreboards, and even a 360 degree viewing platform to enjoy not only the view of the stadium, but also the entire city of Barcelona. It will be a fantastic addition to visiting Camp Nou, as you will be able to enjoy so much more than just football.
In addition, modern shopping facilities, entertainment spaces and green zones will be added for its visitors. So it’s not just a stadium anymore, it’s a grand complex that will be integrated in the city. It will offer a unique ambiance to experience football and the Blaugrana’s passion.
Demolition works have already started at Camp Nou, and the oldest part of the stadium will be preserved. The project will be well underway at the end of 2024, when the football team will be returning home. For the completion of the entire Espai Barça you will have to wait until the end of 2026.
The Olympic Lluís Companys stadium
While the Espai Barça is being renovated, the team will play its matches in the historic Lluís Companys stadium. It was already the venue for many major sports events, and it will temporarily host Barça for the next exciting season (and a bit of the following season as well).
The stadium has a capacity of 49,472 spectators, and is of historic importance. It will offer FC Barcelona a place to continue playing their matches in front of a large group of people without having to leave Barcelona. Although the venue is not very luxurious, at least it’s available to watch Barça’s games next season.
How to get to the Olympic Lluís Companys stadium
Making your way to the Olympic stadium is not that easy if your prefer taking the metro. You can take the L1 and L3 up till PlaçaEspanya, as well as several trains run by the FGC.
But from there you will have to take the bus or go by foot. That would take you about 20 minutes. The bus will stop right in front of the Lluís Companys stadium, and you can either take line 13, 55 or 150 to get there.
If you prefer travelling by car, the stadium’s car park facilities can easily be accessed and there is space enough to park your car comfortably. Getting out of the stadium after the match has finished is a whole other question though!
Season ticket holders and visitors: buying your ticket
FC Barcelona has offered current season ticket holders a unique opportunity when matches are being moved to the Lluís Companys stadium. They can buy a season ticket and if there are significant changes, they will have the opportunity to visit all home matches while the original stadium is being renovated.
If you are visiting Barcelona and want to watch a match, you can buy tickets here. FC Barcelona is, however, suspending Seient Lliure services and children’s tickets, so seasonal ticket holders will have to register in advance to be able to attend a match.
Club members holding a ’22/’23 season membership and who have attended more than 85% of the matches will be given priority when choosing a zone on the next season pass.
The first matches at the Lluís Companys stadium
The season will start with a couple of exciting matches at the Lluís Companys stadium, and Barça will definitely put its best foot forward to win the La Liga again. Consult the official La Liga calendar if you’re looking for dates and matches for the whole season.
FC Barcelona will play their first games at the home stadium on 20 August against Cádiz, on 17 September against Betis, and on 24 September against Celta de Vigo.
The 2023-2024 season is promising to be an unforgettable one for FC Barcelona and its proud supporters. With a new Espai Barça underway and the Olympic Lluís Companys stadium as a temporary venue for the home matches, fans will delighted to watch the La Liga matches as well as other matches here. No matter what, the passion and enthusiasm for the game will be palpable in each and every match!
FYI: Barça is the club, Barna is the city.
