Like every year, the Marató of Barcelona is celebrated. It will be in May 8th that we will witness the 43rd edition of the Zurich Marató Barcelona, considered the “Most magical Marató in the world”. What will the Barcelona Marathon 2022 be like?
It’s a race promoted by different entities such as the Barcelona City Council, the Barcelona Marathon Platform, the Catalan Athletics Federation, and the Barcelona Tourism Commission.
The participants will have to travel a total of 42,195 kilometers in a completely urban circuit on asphalt ground. The limit time to realize the test is 6 hours.
Those who are interested in participating have until May 1st to register on the official website. The price of registration goes from 65 to 89 euros depending on the number of registered at the time you make your request. The registration of each participant includes:

Start of the Zurich Marató Barcelona
The starting point of the Barcelona Marathon 2022 will be at Avenue Reina María Cristina in Barcelona. The time set for the start of the marathon is at 8:30 in the morning on Sunday, May 8th.
Barcelona Marathon Route
As we mentioned before, the scheduled route has a total of 42,195 kilometers. It’s an approved and certified route by the Catalan Athletics Federation.
After leaving Avenue of the Reina María Cristina, you will pass through the Plaza España zone. The designed route allows marathoners to pass through some of the city’s best-known tourist monuments, such as: Casa Batlló, Sagrada Familia, Arco de Triunfo, Plaza Cataluña, or Plaza España.
All are generated through a circuit with very little unevenness, which allows it to be a much faster route.
Categories admitted on the Zurich Marató Barcelona
Like every year, there will be six different categories classified by ages and separated by male and female. At the time of registration, you will be told which category you correspond to.
- Sub 23: between 18 and 22 years old.
- Senior: between 23 and 34 years old.
- Veteran A: between 35 and 44 years old.
- Veteran B: between 45 and 54 years old.
- Veteran C: between 55 and 64 years old.
- Veteran D: from the age of 65 years old.
How to prepare for the Marató of Barcelona?
After making the decision, then comes the personal organization of the event and the training to give your best in this race.
There are various routes to run in the city of Barcelona that will be very useful to prepare for the day. You can vary in each one of them to improve your physical resistance or your personal time.
Also inside the official website, they have a special section called “Training”. General advice is given there divided according to the time in which you expect to finish the Barcelona Marathon route. Each of them consist of a PDF divided into several weeks with daily workouts to do.
