Barcelona’s old-timey shop façades

Sombrereria Obach

One of the oldest and most important hat stores in Barcelona, Sombrereria Obach presents a beautiful façade with gold lettering, large windows and dark marble. Visit the store for the façade, stay to browse a variety of professionally-made hats.

Sombrereria Obach is located at Carrer del Cal, 2.

Patissera La Colmena

If you have ever used the metro stop Jaume I in the Gothic neighborhood, you have probably noticed La Colmena. Founded over one hundred and fifty ago, La Colmena is a famous sweets shop where you can find excellent pastry, bonbons and a variety of yummy chocolates. It’s difficult to decide what catches the attention of the passersbys first: the mouthwatering sweets placed next to the windows or the old-fashioned façade, with its wooden trims, golden letters and tiny curtains.

La Colmena is located at Plaça de l’Àngel, 12.

Café de L’Opera

Founded in 1928, this Viennese-style café looks as interesting from the outside as does from the inside. Go in if you want to feel like you are living in a different era and try the hot chocolate with churros. It’s one of the best in town!

Café de L’Opera is located at Las Ramblas, 74.

Pasteleria Escribà

Founded in 1820 and restored in 1902, Pasteleria Escribà is a fantastic pastry and chocolate store by the Escribà family, some of the most famous pastry chefs in Spain. Antoní Escribà has actually been called “The Mozart of chocolate”! There are three Escribà shops in Barcelona. The one of the beautiful façades is located at Carrer de les Floristes de la Rambla, 83, with a collection of colorful tiles and stained glass that make you want to stop and go in.

Farmacia Sanchís

Farmacia Sanchís is one of the most beautiful places you can discover by accident in Barcelona. The façade’s windows have beautiful wooden trimming and the main door has an interesting golden handle. But the pharmacy is even more fascinating inside than on the outside, with mesmerizing carved wood with gorgeous gothic themes.

Farmacia Sanchís is located at Rambla de Catalunya, 117.

Ganiveteria Roca

Ganiveteria Roca is a store dedicated to shaving products, for classical and modern forms of shaving. Besides the shaving products, Ganiveteria Roca sells pans, knives, cutlery, scissors, combs and brushes, mirrors and wine-related products. The store looks beautiful and old-fashioned from the outside, with its wooden front, bold lettering and heavily but tastefully packed display.

Ganiveteria Roca is located at Plaça del Pi, 3.
