Where to find Belgian beer in Barcelona

In Spain you’ll find great wine, great food, great weather and great people, but perhaps one thing there isn’t all that much choice of is the beer. Don’t get me wrong, there are some wonderful selections: Estrella, Volt Damm, Cruzcampo, San Miguel. But if you want a European beer from somewhere further afield, in particular, a Belgian beer, where do you go?

The good news is that there are a variety of craft beer bars located in various parts of the city. Most will have the odd Belgian beer, plus many others from elsewhere, all with a similar influence. There are also some small breweries and shops. Here’s just a few you should check out.

Belchica

If you want a Belgian beer, this definitely should be your first port of call. Located on Carrer de Villarroel, 60, in L’eixample, Belchica is Barcelona’s main Belgian bar. They offer up a wide selection of beers and can give you a detailed description of any one of them. The bar also shows sports and is frequented by many locals, as well as tourists and Belgians themselves seeking out a taste of their homeland. The bar can become quite busy at the weekends; it has built up quite a name for itself over the years, and sometimes plays host to live music too. Well worth checking out.

Brasserie de La Maison Belge

This open brewery is located in the Sants area of the city. It stocks a vast amount of Belgian products, as well as a few local ones; boasting over 120 different bottled beers, plus more on tap. It is often referred to as ‘a place of Belgium in Barcelona’. As well as the various drinks on offer, it sells cheese and Paté dishes, and often has live music in the style of jazz, rock and blues.

You can find Brasserie de La Maison Belge at Rambla del Brasil, 55.
