Best Day Trips from Barcelona

With there being a variety of places to go to in Barcelona, it is hard to imagine a moment where you could escape. And if you had the opportunity where would you go? Would you go toward the mountain or follow the beach? Each destination provides you with a different ambiance, adventure, and experience.

Here are ShBarcelona’s Best Day-Trips that are less than five hours from the city:

La Molina

La Molina is a 2-hour trip by train. It is a beautiful mountain town to explore. The silence of nature consumes you upon your arrival. You can take the day to ski or hike different trails. I was fortunate enough to visit and it was a wonderful escape from the hustle-and-bustle of Barcelona. Go for a day or stay a weekend, you will find a quiet paradise in this beautiful town.

With the Renfe, you can buy a ticket for 41 euros. The ticket includes round-trip train ticket, round-trip bus pass to the mountain, and entrance to ski. You can rent ski gear and clothes in shops near the mountain.

Sitges

A 45-minute train ride will get you to the beautiful town of Sitges. Get lost in its quaint narrow streets. Have a drink on the beach. Explore the historic cathedrals. Take a tour around their cava factory.

Sitges is most famous for the festivals they put together. Some of them include the film festival and carnival. Your bound to have a great time!

Montserrat

This beautiful mountain of Montserrat is a 25-minute train ride away. Montserrat represents so much of the Catalan culture. It is always filled with music and dance. It is home to La Moreneta, which means black madonna, and the world’s best children’s choir- L’Escolania de Montserrat. It also has amazing views of the ocean. If you decided to hike the trails you will find a number of rock climbers, and hikers making their way up this 1,236-meter mountain.

Definitely worth the trip!

La Costa Brava

Costa Brava is a short 80-minute train ride from the center of Barcelona. You can enjoy an exquisite meal by the seaside while watching the waves roll in. You can also rent a bike and ride through Vies Verdes into the countryside. Vies Verdes is an old train route turned into a bike trail. You can explore the hidden coves of Argue Xelida, and enjoy the crystal clear water. Or maybe you are feeling a little medieval. In that case, make your way toward the hilltop of Besalu and experience the ancient town.

Tarragona

Tarragona is a beautiful city to escape to.  An hour train ride, and you could be making your way through the medieval pathways that lead to the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria. The roman catholic cathedral was built during the transitional style from the Romanesque to the Gothic ages. You cannot forget to visit the roman amphitheater. They held many spectacles here (e.g. theater and circus). Pont del Diable is another architectural amazement you must not miss.

If you want to make your stay a little longer, a trip to the Goblet Monastery is another great place to escape to. They provide numerous star and nature tours

Safe Travels!
