If you are looking for a healthy breakfast in Barcelona – sometimes hot chocolate with churros doesn’t quite hit the spot – then check out some of the following:
Table of Contents
Teresa Carles
A popular vegetarian restaurant serving organic soya yogurt with mango and granola; seasonal fruit salad; and a choice of artisan-made muffins. Lots of egg-related dishes to choose from, made with free-range eggs.
They also have wholemeal croissants that come served with organic margarine and home-made jam, pancakes and kefir with cane sugar along with some other options.
If you are gluten-friendly you can have whole wheat toast with avocado and cayenne, or with banana and Nutella or marmalade. Toast costs around 3 euros.
There are sandwiches with soy mayonnaise and organic egg dishes from €8 plus.
Breakfasts are served between 10am and 2pm.
There are a range of freshly prepared juices that cost either less than 5 euros including Bloody Marys with or without liquor; green juices; smoothies and organic coffees.
Prices are steep but the quality is high and they have free wi-fi.

Buenas Migas
With branches throughout the city, Buenas Migas offers breakfasts of thick brown toast with a choice of jams and Nutella; natural yogurt with fruits or granola; scones or flapjacks. They often have meal deals in the mornings. Eg a herbal tea and a slice of warm focaccia (plain, with raisins or filled with Nutella) for around €2. A bargain.
A few types of tea, coffees and hot chocolates (a la taza – eg thick and Spanish style).
Flax & Kale
Child of Teresa Carles, Flax & Kale is new to the vegetarian eating scene although they serve fish.
They have a great breakfast menu and a fantastic juice bar plus some great smoothies and a ‘healthy’ bakery.

Hi Michael,
I really appreciate this page. Being an avid juice fan and vegetarian myself, my boyfriend and I have had to really search for nutritious places to eat, especially breakfasts consisting of croissants and tortillas and not much more (can’t do any more bread or potato on this trip or ham in my boyfriends case!)
Looking forward to Teresa Carles when we’re in Barcelona next week!
We loved the team a Buenas Migas – so friendly and Marco is a super star…its not easy to find great healthy choices
