A not very good year for Spain ended a few days ago, although some say that the recovery from the economic crisis afflicting Spain for a few years is getting to an end. Anyway, it is time to take stock. In ShBarcelona we know that you are interested in the business world because some of you come to live in the city because of that, to start a business project or expand your business horizons. So we consulted some of the indexes and lists that indicate what the best companies in Spain are.

But what is it that determines that a company is better than another? There are two main approaches: through the workers, ie, what are the best places to work in Spain, and economic, that is, what are the companies that have increased sales throughout the year.

Best Workplaces 2014

According to the ranking which is published annually by Great Place to Work, which is based on the perception that employees of the company in which they work and the corporate culture of it, the best companies to work that have more than 1,000 employees are: Atento Spain, Novartis, Lilly, Makro, Brico, Adecco and Mapfre. If we reduce the number of employees from 1,000 to 500, we find ING Direct, Microsoft Ibérica, Telefónica, Japan Tobacco, Quintiles, DKV Seguros and Philips Ibérica. In the list of companies with fewer workers Volkswagen-Audi Spain, Cisco, Kellog, Royal Canin, King and Mercedes-Benz also appear, among others. If you come to Spain to work in one of these companies, you will enjoy it for sure!

Companies with higher sales in 2014

If you look at the sales that have taken Spanish companies, that is purely economic aspects, we have to talk about the Ranking Infocif. This is based on the turnover obtained by the companies in 2012, as it is the last year that companies has reported their revenues in the Commercial Register. Still we can get an idea of what are the most powerful companies, as most are still in this list. In first place is the Spanish Oil Company SAU (Cepsa), ahead of Repsol Petróleo SA, Mercadona, Iberdrola Generación SAU, Endesa Energy, El Corte Ingles, the State Society of State Lotteries, Telefonica and Natural Gas.

The only company that is on both lists is Telefónica, so that’s a safe bet, despite not being highly regarded by users of their services.
