Bookstores in Eixample

A lot of people have replaced the habit of buying books with the downloading of ebooks. The digital and technologic world is fascinating, but the real reason people are now opting for ebooks is the price, considering physical books too expensive to purchase.

It’s time to extinguish this false notion – books have to be seen for what they are, a very valuable item. Don’t we often pay larger sums to go a concert, go out to dinner or to other leisure activities? Then why not spend the money on something you will be able to treasure forever?

Here are the best bookstores in Eixample.

Casa del Libro

Casa del Libro is one of the most important bookstore chains in Spain. Founded over 90 years ago, Casa del Libro has over 30 stores all around the country. Each location has a vast collection of books, with a variety of categories to choose from. There are two Casa del Libro stores in Eixample. The one in Passeig de Gracia 62 is a reference for locals, a large venue with a magnificent presentation room and a rich activities program.

The second store is located at Rambla Catalunya 37 and it has one of the largest event halls of all the Casa del Libro stores. There are a number of tables and sofas distributed around this venue so that people can get acquainted with the books before deciding if they want to buy them.

If you prefer, you can buy your books online by using Casa del Libro‘s official website, but we do encourage you to go to the store. It’s a very pleasant experience.

La Central

Located at Calle Mallorca 237, La Central‘s 500 square meters are covered with over 85000 books! Submerge yourself in their rich collection of fiction books, help the kids choose a beautiful child’s book, or simply browse the magazines the store has to offer. If you feel like nibbling on something, go up to the second floor and sit at the store’s café, which offers delicious food and free wifi.

+Bernat

For over 30 years, +Bernat was a traditional bookstore, dedicated exclusively to books. After a recent transformation, the store became a dynamic multi-purpose space. From early in the morning to 8 pm, +Bernart offers fresh, healthy food that you can eat at the store or take away. They have a calendar that is packed with activities like book signings, concerts, workshops, conferences, etc. The store is also available for private events like birthdays, baptisms, and anniversaries.

Other bookstores

Besides the four stores mentioned above, you can also pay a visit to Abacus and Fnac. They are not dedicated exclusively to selling books, but you can still find an excellent collection in each one. If you want to find something on the cheap side, try going to Re-Read, a store that sells second-hand books.
