If you are looking for things to visit in this beautiful city, then Casa Calvet is an absolute must. Located only a few minutes away from the Passeig de Gràcia metro stop and in the heart of Barcelona, Casa Calvet is a very well situated building to visit. As one of Antoni Gaudi’s great works (upon its creation, in 1900 Barcelona’s City Council awarded it the prize for the best building of the year!) and one of his earliest, it is a stunning architectural sight and it has a fantastic restaurant on the ground floor.

The building was originally created by Gaudi for the textile manufacturer Senor Calvet. From the outside Casa Calvet looks almost fairy-tale like with its curving stone walls and pretty wrought-iron balconies. Make sure you take a moment to look closely at the special details that Gaudi cleverly included in the design for the owner Senor Calvet who commissioned the design. For instance, there is the a ‘C’ above the entrance of the building, and there are three busts on the façade of the building representing Saint Peter (the saint of Calvet’s name), Saint Genesius of Arles and Saint Genesius of Rome (the patron saints of Calvet’s hometown).

Casa Calvet is home to one of Barcelona’s very best restaurants, which opened its doors in 1994. It is not possible to visit the house inside, except to visit the incredible restaurant, so make sure that you do so to sample the delicious food and take a peek inside one of Gaudi’s famed works. Head chef Miquel Alija leads a talented team and serves up Mediterranean cuisine that is full of flavor and creativity. There is an option to order from the weekday menu or if you are feeling indulgent, you can order the tasting menu, which contains six courses to be shared with the whole table.
Every dish is presented beautifully and creatively and all ingredients are seasonal and fresh. The Restaurant Casa Calvet converts dining into a theatrical event in a unique setting and is truly an unmissable experience to enjoy in Barcelona. The restaurant has become hugely popular over recent years so make sure to reserve a table should you wish to dine as it will be near impossible to eat without a booking!
