Located in Barcelona, El Prat Airport is the main airport in Catalonia. In 2016, approximately 44 million people went through its terminals making it the second busiest airport in Spain. It is located just outside of the city center in El Prat de Llobregat where the airport gets its name from. With two terminals, it serves national, European and international flights to North America, South America, Middle East, Asia and Africa. To get to the airport in Barcelona by public transport you have a host of options including train, metro, bus or the aerobus service, all of which take between 20 and 30 minutes from the city centre.

Girona – Costa Brava Airport

The Girona airport is the second major airport in Catalonia and although smaller in size it is a useful hub for those traveling to Girona or to the beautiful Costa Brava in the summer. It has recently grown quite a bit, mainly due to the number of Ryanair flights that stop and leave from there. It can be used as an alternative to Barcelona airport but the journey from this airport to Barcelona takes a little over an hour. There are buses leaving from the airport that take you to Barcelona, Girona and the Costa Brava including Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar and Blanes.

Reus Airport

Reus Airport is located close to Costa Daurada near the city of Reus, the birthplace of Antoni Gaudí. It welcomes passengers traveling onto Salou, Cambils, Tarragona and one of Europe’s largest theme parks, PortAventura. To get to Reus Airport from Reus there is a regular bus service which only takes 20 minutes. There is also a direct bus from Reus and the Reus Airport to the center of Barcelona.

Lleida Airport is a regional airport for those wanting to travel and explore the west of Catalonia including the Pyrenees and Andorra. It was the first airport built and owned by the Catalan Government, having opened its doors in 2010. There are direct buses from Barcelona to the Lleida airport but they aren’t very frequent so it’s best to check the times before traveling. There is also a shuttle bus service to get to Lleida city centre from the airport.
