Cheapest places to grab a beer in Barcelona

Going out for a drink in Barcelona can get a bit pricey at times. Whether you’re a student on a budget or waiting for payday, there’s no reason why you can’t go out and enjoy a beer with friends.

Here is a list of places where you can get a cheap beer and some snacks without breaking the bank.

L’Ovella Negra

With two locations, one in Marina and the other a few minutes from La Rambla, L’Ovella Negra is a favorite among students, locals, and backpackers on a budget. Here you can grab a caña for as little as €1.20 or a jarra for just a little bit more, with a bowl of popcorn included. This bar is like a mix between a German beer hall and a medieval bar for Vikings, with stone walls, long wooden tables, and dim lighting. Depending on the day you visit, you can hear music or catch a Barça game on TV and cheer on the team. After a round of drinks, you can challenge your friends to a game of foosball or darts with the loser buying the next round!

L’Antic Teatre

Walk too quickly and you just might miss this hidden gem near Palau de la Música. On the outside, this place doesn’t look like much but once you walk down the steps and go to the patio you will find a charming little garden, the perfect spot to have a drink and relax. L’Antic Teatre is a recycled space where there are different types of performances such as dance, juggling, or film. With small tables, strings of lights, and big shady trees, you will feel like you are miles away from the city while actually in the heart of Barcelona.

33/45

This bar is the ultimate place to kick back, relax, and have a beer. 33/45 offers a laid-back atmosphere, perfect for a chat with friends over a cheap beer or two. The bar is decorated in a modern/industrial style with vintage furniture and lots of big comfy couches. The front of the bar is usually a bit crowded but once you make your way towards the back, the crowd thins out and you can pick out your favorite sofa to sit on and enjoy your beer.

El Papelón

Near La Rambla on Carrer del Carme is El Papelón, a tavern that serves cheap tapas and beers by the bucket. For a few euros, you can get a bucket of 5 beers which is perfect for a small group of friends, or beer on tap that you can buy by the glass. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and you can enjoy your beverage sitting at a table or standing at a barrel. El Papelón is known for its Spanish meats and cheeses which you can wash down with an ice-cold beer. This place is great for an afternoon pit stop to have a pre-dinner drink or for the evening if you’re looking for some traditional Spanish tapas on the cheap.
