The Art of Chocolate – Museu de la Xocolata

If you never thought a museum could make your mouth water, prepare for a visit to one that makes you want to eat the art. I’m talking, of course, about the Museu de la Xocolata, Barcelona’s very own chocolate museum!

Located at the former Sant Agustí monastery, the Museu de la Xocolata tells the visitors all about this delicious treat. From chocolate’s origins and its arrival in Europe to its medicinal properties and nutritional value.

The museum offers a variety of activities and educational services.

Guided tour: Adults and teenagers 16 and up can enjoy a guided tours, which cost 6,50€ per person and last 1 hour.

Chocolate tasting

Chocolate tasting is a workshop that will teach you about the different varieties of solid and liquid chocolate, how the type of cocoa used affects the taste and much more. This 1-hour activity costs 8.80€ per person.

Speak with chocolate: people from 16 and up can pay 25€ for a 3-hour class that will teach them how to make chocolate bars, bonbons and lollipops.

100% Dark is an activity in which the participants’ eyes are covered with a blindfold and they are given several types of chocolate to taste. The activity lasts 1 hour and a half and costs 10€ per person.

Combining brandies with chocolate: those over 18 years old can join this activity that begins with chocolate and ends with brandy. The price is 15.20€ per person.

Children can participate in activities like Painting with chocolate, Chocolate artists and The sweet world of the Cocoa Spark.

You can find the chocolate museum at Carrer Comerç, 36. To get to the museum using public transportation, take the subway using the yellow line (L4) to get to Jaume I or the red line (L1) to get to Arc de Triomf.  You can also use buses number 39, 40, 42, 45, 51, 120, H16, V15 and V17.

The Chocolate Museum is open from Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays.

The price of a ticket is 5€ or 4€ for a group of 15 or more people.

Students, unemployed and retired people pay 4.25€.
