The Little Prince

The Little Prince has been one of Barcelona’s most popular children‘s shows during the Christmas season for years.

The show really brings a tear to everyone’s eye, and this is the fifth consecutive year that it is being organized at Sala BARTS, which is in the neighbourhood of Sant Antoni.

The initiators of the show are Àngel Llàcer, Manu Guix and La Perla 29, and with 200,000 spectators it has proven to be a great success. The Little Prince is a musical that deals with the beautiful story of Le Petit Prince, a story written by French author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

The story centers around the journey of a child, who wants to learn about himself.

Self exploration takes him to several planets (from asteroid B612 to the Earth), and, of course, the musical goes hand in hand with heartwarming and fun songs to emphasize the intrinsic values of this extraordinary work by Saint-Exupéry.

Visit the abbey of Montserrat

One of the symbols of Catalan culture and spirituality is “La Moreneta”. The dark color of the face and hands are an explanation for this statue’s name, and the color of the skin has even darkened with the passage of time.

Some people, however, believe that La Moreneta is a black virgin. The statue is Romanesque wood sculpture, dating from the end of the 12th century.

The image represents the Virgin of Montserrat, with her child Jesus on her lap. The Virgin holds an orb in her right hand, a symbol of the cosmos, the creation of the earth. The carving is inside the Abbey of Montserrat, a cultural building on the highest parts of the mountain of Montserrat.

This rocky massif is one of the most important and typical mountains in Catalonia, and the monastery’s and abbey’s location creates a very unique atmosphere. Ideally, you would visit the mountain on a clear day, as you can enjoy magnificent views from the top. But in the event you happen to be there on a cold and cloudy day, just warm up inside one of its restaurants or cafes with a hot chocolate or a coffee.

The “Cursa dels Nassos” (or Nose Race) is one of the most interesting running events in Barcelona. The race takes place on Tuesday, December 31, always on the last day of the year.

If you like running, be sure to participate in this race, as it welcomes (almost) everyone. The race will start at 17:30 at Carrer de la Selva de Mar, in the neighbourhood of Provençals del Poblenou.

The minimum age for enrolling in the race is 16. If you are 16 or 17 years old, make sure one of your parents or a legal guardian is with you to authorize your participation when you collect your race number.

The race covers 10 kilometers, and the route is signposted and marked every half kilometer. Refreshments can be enjoyed halfway through the race (at 5 kilometers), and at the finish line. The race will close 1 hour and 20 minutes after the last runner has started. Will you join the race on December 31?
