Walking in the lovely area of Carrer Bailen, close to Arc de Triomf, you will stumble upon an exciting and unique store by the name of Madame Chocolat.
Madame Chocolat is a relatively new business, the only steampunk store in Barcelona.
The steampunk fashion doesn’t have any particular rules, but it is heavily influenced by the Victorian era, often featuring corsets, petticoats, bustles, top hats, tailcoats, and military-inspired garments.
Madame Chocolat is a dream come true for all the girls who love the steampunk style, where they can find intricate dresses, long and short skirts, ruffled shirts, gorgeous jackets, cool t-shirts, sexy and bad-ass corsets and shoes.
But the store also offers other styles of clothing. Lolita is a more feminine and delicate style, with brighter colors and extra ruffles; Gothic focuses on darker themes and colors; Punk and Visual Kei offers irreverent patterns and messages and pops of red color, and Fairy Kei & Harajuku and Gyaru have a lot of pink and a variety of fun designs.

Besides the clothes, Madame Chocolat sells Japanese books and magazines, makeup, socks and stockings, and a very interesting selection of hats and hair accessories, including the horns from the movie “Maleficent”. The store also has a collection of fun purses shaped like a popcorn box, a wrapped bubble gum, an Ouija board, a book, a watch, and of course, gothic and steampunk-themed purses.
Madame Chocolat has an online store where you can browse and purchase items, but I recommend you pay a visit to the store, so you can experience the steampunk/goth universe live.
Madame Chocolat is open from Monday to Saturday, from 10:30 am to 2 pm, and 5 to 8:30 pm. The store is located at Carrer de Bailèn, 12, just off of Passeig de Sant Joan. The best way to get there is by using the red line (L1) of the subway and exiting at Arc de Triomf.
