Eating out in Barrio Gotico

With it’s dark, alluring and sometimes hidden alleyways built into and around ancient walls (some dating back to Roman times) El Barrio Gotico is the charming old town of Barcelona, and a haven for eating out.

It has something to offer everyone, from the fast food burger addict to the gastronomical fine dinner. Family’s, couples, friends and business colleagues all flock to the many restaurants to enjoy an atmosphere that is both vibrant and entertaining.

Meandering through the medieval labyrinth of gothic streets and corridors amidst the many pleasant aromas and smells of cooking is an enjoyable way to spend the day. Your nose might very well lead you to the perfect dinner evening but if you’d rather plan ahead, then here is our guide to some of the best places to eat out in Barrio Gotico.

Bar La Plata

Simplicity is key in Bar La Plata, a small establishment who offer a simple menu of very high-quality tapas and seafood. It’s cozy, good value and the wine is served in a porron – a traditional Spanish pitcher shaped like a watering can – except this watering can is full of wine and poured straight into the mouth!

El Pinxto de Petritxol

Craving a taste of the Basque country? Look no further than El Pintxo de Petritxol, tucked away in a narrow street just off La Rambla. One of the best places to indulge in Mediterranean cuisine with a menu to suit just about everyone. The sangria here is very good too!

Guru BCN

For vegans, vegetarians and those requiring gluten free options (as well as meat eaters) Guru BCN Food and Cocktails offers the lot. The staff is very welcoming and knowledgeable, and there is a spirited party atmosphere which seems to always lead to one more cocktail.

Tucco Real Food

For students and those living on a shoestring budget, head to Tucco Real Food where you can get an Italian pasta dish, a glass of red wine and a dessert for under 10!

Bacoa Ferran

Bacoa Ferran is a straight up burger bar whose cows are 100% grass fed, which apparently makes them tastier. There are vegetarian selections with all ingredients sourced locally (where possible.) Burgers are big enough to fill a grown man and reasonably priced so you won’t break the bank.

Koy Shunka

Koy Shunka is a Michelin star Japanese restaurant serving an exquisite sushi menu. Delicious food, smart service and a wealth of options presented like artwork on your plate. Coming in at around 70  per person it’s not cheap, but to those in the know, it’s well worth it.
