The English side of Barcelona

Barcelona is a city that welcomes people from all over the world. Those who are English speakers will find that is easy to make new friends and to find a variety of services that will ake their life easier as an expat.

Movie Theatres

You may have discovered by now that most of the movies in Spain are dubbed. Fortunately, there are a couple of movie theatres in Barcelona that show movies in their original version. The  most popular ones are Cine Meliés (Calle de Villaroel, 102) , Cinemes Girona (Calle Girona, 175), Vines Verdi (Calle Verdi, 32), Filmoteca Catalunya Cina (Avinguda de Sarria, 33), Yelmo Icària (Calle Salvador Espiriu, 61) , and Renoir Floridablanca (Calle Floridablanca, 135).

Book Stores

Fnac and Casa del Llibre are two of the most book stores in the city. Both have a selection of books in English where you can find some of the classics and contemporary books. But if you are an avid reader, you will probably need book stores that offer a greater variety of English books. Come in (Carrer de Balmes, 129-Bis) sells exclusively English books, offering also a couple of English games. Hibernian Books is another great shop to go to for English books. There you can find a huge variety of used English books at reduced prices, and a couple of new books as well. Another interesting feature of Hibernian Books (Carrer Montseny, 17) is that it buys used books, for which you can receive anything from 0,25€ to a couple of euros.

Newspapers & Magazines

Those who haven’t had the time to learn Spanish yet, may find it difficult to keep up to date with what is going on in the world while visiting or staying in Barcelona. Fortunately, there are newspapers, magazines and websites that offer the news in English. Try Metropolitan Barcelona, The Local, El País (online), BCN Més, or Catalonia Today.

Jobs

If one of the reasons that make you hesitate about moving to Barcelona is that you don’t know how to speak or write Spanish that well, take a look at some of the dozens of expat job websites, where you can jobs in many different languages. Some of the most popular expat job websites for people in Barcelona are Justlanded,  Xpatjobs, JobsinBarcelona, and Europe Language Jobs.
