The most famous streets, boulevards and avenues in Barcelona

There are lots of exciting streets, boulevards and avenues to be discovered in the city, leading you to the most wonderful places. If you only have time to visit out a few of them, make sure to check the most famous ones in Barcelona.

La Rambla

Commonly known as “Las Ramblas”, La Rambla is one of the most popular boulevards in Barcelona. Every day thousands of people walk along this area, which is full of shops, restaurants and street performers. The reason for La Rambla being commonly referred to as “Las Ramblas”, is the fact that this boulevard is composed of a series of different ramblas: Rambla de Canaletes, Rambla dels Estudis, Rambla de Sant Josep, Rambla dels Caputxins and Rambla Santa Monica.

La Rambla separates two of the city’s most important neighborhoods, Barrio Gótico, a place where you will see relevant examples of Catalan architecture and learn about the history of the city, and Raval, a neighborhood with a sketchy reputation that has been developing into an interesting and eclectic commercial area.

Passeig de Gràcia

Known as Barcelona’s Champs Elysee, Passeig de Gràcia is one of the fanciest streets in the city. Here, you will find several luxury clothing stores like Stella McCartney, Valentino, Prada and Louis Vuitton. But Passeig de Gràcia isn’t only famous for luxury shopping, it is also the street where four of the most famous modernist buildings are located. Take a stroll in Passeig de Gràcia and you will have the opportunity to photograph Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, Casa Lleó i Morera and Casa Amatler.

Be sure to pay attention to the ground you are walking on. There are areas in Passeig de Gràcia where you can see beautiful designs created by Gaudi on the sidewalk. The tiles have become so famous, there are replicas being sold in stores all over the city.

Portal de l’Ángel

This street is one of the most popular areas to go shopping in Barcelona. Pull & Bear, Mango, Stradivarius, Shana, and Pimkie are some of the several stores that stand on each side of the busiest pedestrian the street in the city.

Avinguda Diagonal

Diagonal is one of the largest and most important avenues in Barcelona, dividing the city into the East and the West. Avinguda Diagonal begins in the district of Les Corts and ends in the district of Sant Martí. Using Avinguda Diagonal you will get to places like the Music Museum, Palau Reial de Pedralbes, the Agbar tower, the Design Museum and a number of shopping malls.
