There are plenty of gyms and other fitness facilities in Barcelona that you can use. But of course you will need to pay a membership fee to use these facilities. Also in the city you will find municipal sports centres (polideportivos). These often can be used and you pay a small fee to do so. Plus if you are staying in the city for any length of time they also offer formal membership as well.
For those of you who are going to be staying in a part of the city known as El Born then you have a couple of options available to you. Below we take a look at what some of these are so you can get fit in El Born district.

There are in fact two of these fitness centres located in the city. Each one of them has 3 different rooms where different classes take place. One is used solely for aerobic exercise, another for spinning classes and the final one for tai chi and yoga. Each week around 150 classes are available and you don’t need to book in advance to attend them. Also they include a 20m swimming pool in each one.
To join will cost between 70€ and 80€. This depends on the kind of membership you take out.
This is a facility that is family orientated and offers a number of activitites that children will enjoy. Plus they also offer swimming lessons for children aged 3 years and above.
But it isn’t all about the children there are plenty of facilities that adults can use, as well as the usual fitness rooms and spinning room. There is also a weights room and a cardio area. In this area you’ll find treadmills, rowing machines and bikes.
DIR
This is a Catalan owned company and they have gyms all around the city. But the most impressive of all of these is DIR Diagonal. It coves at total of 12,600 sq m and contains one of the largest fitness rooms in Barcelona. Here is where all their cardio equipment is located. Plus there are a further 3 rooms that they use for classes such as pilates etc. Also there is one room set aside specifically for spinning classes.
But what really helps this gym stand out from the rest is the 50m swimming pool. Half of which is outdoors and the other half indoors. Plus it is surrounded by grass allowing you a place to relax after working out using the sun beds.
As you would expect membership costs do vary, as it will depend on the kind of membership you take out. But unlike some of the other places to get fit in El Born district this one allows you to join them for the day.
