Have fun in Barcelona this December

Barcelona is a great city to visit any time of the year. If you decide to come during the month of December, you will have the opportunity to experience a variety of events that are sure to put you in the Christmas mood.

Here is how you can have fun in Barcelona this December:

Go Ice Skating

christmas barcelonachristmas barcelonaDuring the Christmas season, Barcelona brings joy to residents and visitors by giving them the opportunity to ice skate in the center of the city with the ice rink “Bargelona”. The rink is usually assembled at Plaza Catalunya, but this year Bargelona had to change locations to La Farga at L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.

If you don’t feel like going that far, you can go to the Skating Club, at Carrer Roger de Flor, 168, or to the ice rink at FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou, at Carrer d’Aristides Maillol, 12.

Shop at the Christmas markets

Starting in the end of November and ending on the 23rd of December, or beginning of January, the city is invaded by Christmas markets where you can find a wide variety of Christmas-related articles. The most popular Christmas markets are Fira de Santa Llucía, which takes place at Plaça Nova, next to Catedral de Barcelona, Fira de Nadal a la Sagrada Familia, which takes place in the garden right in front Sagrada Família, and Feria de Reyes de la Gran Vía de Barcelona, which takes place in various spots along the largest avenue in Catalonia, the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes.

Spend a couple of hours browsing the fairs and enjoy a good churro con chocolate caliente.

Discover the Pesebres

Pesebre is the Spanish word for Nativity Scene. During the month of the December, a series of nativity scenes will start being assembled in various points in the city. Keep an eye out for churches, the beach (sand pesebres!) and public places like Plaza Sant Jaume and Plaza Catalunya.

Visit Plaza Catalunya

From the 19th of December, Plaza Catalunya will be the stage to a series of fairs, plays, comedy shows, games, light and water shows with the twin fountains and many surprises! The activities will start on December 19th, ending on January 4th.

Watch the Cursa dels Nassos

L’Home dels Nassos, or the Noses Man, is a Catalan character with a large nose that walks the streets of Barcelona on New Year’s Day giving candy to children. Some people purchase fake noses, which can easily be found in stores during the Christmas season, to join the fun.

There is even a race called Cursa dels Nassos, or “The noses race”, a 10 km race in which people also wear noses to run.
