Hidden restaurants in Barcelona

More often than you imagine you will have passed in front of a restaurant and you haven’t noticed. How  can this be possible, you may wonder… Because there are many restaurants that are “hidden” behind the walls of a building, inside of a flat, in terraces, houses or not recognizable from the outside spaces. They are the “hidden restaurants” and from ShBarcelona we want you to discover them.

Speakeasy

A speakeasy was an establishment that illegally sold alcoholic beverages during the Prohibition era in the United States. In 2002, Speakeasy became the first venue establishing a new concept by using a password to enter the clandestine restaurant. It is hidden in the former Dry Martini warehouse at Aribau Street 162. It offers exquisite traditional Catalan and Spanish cuisine with the best seasonal products. For reservations, you can call +34 932 175 080, or you can make one online.

Chi-Ton Souvenirs

Chi-Ton literally means “Shhh, silence”. Chiton at first glance appears to be a souvenir shop that offers the usual stuff: typical flamenco dresses, greeting cards, and other Barcelona related knickknacks. Nothing is further from the truth, though: behind the shop, there is a hidden entrance to one of today’s coolest restaurants. Chiton is a fancy and modern restaurant that offers delicious cocktails and a live show cooking (creative fusion). Chiton is located at Carrer de Provença. For reservations, you can call 935 175 968.

Restaurant Bistrot by Valkyria

Restaurant Bistrot is located in a co-working space in Poblenou and serves breakfast, brunches, and other menus at a more than affordable price, always with fresh and seasonal products. Try the curry pumpkin cream for instance, or the baked cod with saffron muslin. You can find Bistrot at Carrer Pujades 126.

Matís Bar

Having a chef with Michelin star is always a guarantee for a good dining experience. Artur Martinez, leader of Matís, makes some typical and traditional dishes or “tapas”, all according to the Barcelona Slow Food movement, with his special touch in this hidden restaurant within the College of Architects of Catalonia at Plaça Nova 5. You can reach them on 934 121 995.

Philippines Club

This place is the former Club Pipa, where you arrive after going up a narrow staircase from a building door in Plaza Real. Everything inside this large place has been remodeled in a more minimalist concept, but charming, in which all kinds of private events take place.

  • Hi Adriana

I'm to reach someone at Chiton but the number seems to be incorrect. I hope you can help me.
    Thank you!

  • Can you advise if this place is still open ? I have attempted to contact Chi-Ton Souvenirs on 935 175 968.however i an unable to get through or receive an answer? please advise at your earliest convenience!

    • Hello Domante,
When I look on google.maps I can find three restaurants on Carrer de Provenca 300, but unfortunately none of these is Chi-Ton.
      Regards,
      Daniella
