Cannabis consumption is a subject that has been the source of controversy for over 70 years. There are those who believe the use of marijuana should become legal while others are completely against it. This is a topic that is still being discussed in Catalonia, where marijuana-related articles and even seeds can be legally sold while the purchase of the product itself has to be done secretly.
The museum presents the personal collection of Ben Dronkers, Hash Marijuana Cañamo & Hemp Museum‘s founder, showcasing over 6000 articles, giving visitors an insight into the various aspects of cannabis use in the human culture.
The museum’s collection includes articles like pipes, posters, books, shoes, guitars and unique paintings that depict the recreational use of cannabis during the sixteenth and the seventeenth century.
Hash Marijuana Cañamo & Hemp Museum teaches visitors about the industrial use of hemp in the creation of oil, yoga mats, paper, clothing, shoes, ropes, plastic and much more.
A large part of the exhibit is dedicated to the cultural use of cannabis, showing visitors how it became part of the creative process of artists such as Bob Marley and John Lennon, how important it is as part of certain religious ceremonies, and how it is used recreationally.
Visitors will also learn about the medicinal application of cannabis and the way it was used by doctors throughout the years, being recommended to patients who suffered from specific types of illnesses.
The exhibit also explains the nutritional value of the cannabis seeds, which are rich in protein, fatty acids and poor in saturated fat.
