The UIMP is considered Spain’s primary institution for Spanish language and culture studies for foreign students. It is a public institute, founded in 1932, with campuses in numerous cities across Spain. As well as Spanish courses, the UIMP also offers postgraduate courses in various other areas of study, including translation, renewable energy, economics and finance, and contemporary history.
Ever since its establishment, the UIMP has had a strong emphasis on Spanish language and literature, specially aimed towards foreign students. Since the early 1980s the university has expanded considerably, both in terms of its campuses and the range of courses taught there. This has included the introduction of shorter courses, as well as courses in the areas of social sciences, humanities and technology. While especially popular areas of study at the UIMP are Spanish Language and Spansh History and Culture, the university offers a fairly wide range of Official Postgraduate and Doctorate Programs. Some of these lead to internationally recognized Masters’ and Doctoral Degrees. Additionally, the university offers its own Postgraduate Programs leading to UIMP-based Qualifications and other specialized courses.
