Museu del Modernismo Barcelona

Founded in March of 2010, Barcelona’s Modernism Museum specializes in the Catalan modernist period. MMBCN occupies a modernist building from the early nineteen hundreds designed by Catalan architect Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia, also responsible for the New Customs House (Duana), the church of Tibidabo and the Caixa de Pensions building, in Via Laietana.

Museu del Modernismo Barcelona has a large collection of works that represent different artistic genres like interior decoration, painting and sculpture. There are pieces that used to belong to lavish bourgeois houses, pieces that used to on the streets and works from private collections.

Museu del Modernismo Barcelona aims to educate visitors about the Catalan modernist movement.

Activities

Museu del Modernismo Barcelona organizes a series of activities for people of all ages, so they can get closer to the artistic world and learn in a fun way, like Música al Museu, a program that brings concerts to the museum every Saturday at 7 pm.

The museum also offers a variety of classes and conferences about Art History, taught and presented by art experts and professions.  Children can also have fun at Museu del Modernismo Barcelona, by taking a workshop, like the Christmas-themed workshop where they get to create a piece of stained glass.

Some of the museum’s activities take place out on the streets, such as walking tours in which visitors can get to know Barcelona’s modernist constructions.

Guided visits

Museu del Modernismo Barcelona offers guided visits for groups, to the permanent or temporary exhibit. The guided visits are free, taking place the first Sunday of the month at 12 pm. The language used during the guided visit is usually Catalan, but it can be changed upon request. Contact the museum to reserve your spot at least one week before.

Two for one

If you are also planning to visit Casa Lleó Morera, you are in luck! You can buy a combined ticket that will allow you to visit both Museu del Modernismo Barcelona and Casa Lleó Morera.
