Located on the border of Catalonia and high in the mountains, it can be quite the trek to the Parc Astronòmic de Montsec, but it is definitely worth it. Most sessions and tours are in Catalan, so make sure to ask in advance if there is one in English before you go. It’s constantly booked on the weekends for a good reason, so be sure to plan beforehand. You can get guided tours at 22:00 or 00:00, look at the moon and stars through telescopes, observe the sky through a professional telescope, and watch a film about the universe on the dome ceiling. Check out their website for more details.

Sternalia offers a wide range of services and activities for their visitors. Their website offers you the opportunity to visit two different observatories. The main one is the Fabra Observatory where they have tours every Friday and Saturday ranging from €15 – €25 depending on the length of the tour you pick. You can go on weekend trips to the beautiful mountains at Montserrat or visit an ancient monastery in Tarragona. Sternalia even organizes courses where you can take your interest in the stars to the next level. You can also have an amazing dinner with the stars in the observatory, bringing amazing views to you over an excellent meal. They offer tours in English, Spanish, and Catalan. It’s in a good location in close proximity to the city, so if you have a car it isn’t that far a drive.

If you want to practice your Spanish or Catalan, you can go and check out the Astronómica de Sabadell. They have a wide range of activities offered on their website for you to enjoy. There are events such as public star-gazing sessions, conferences, talks, events for kids, and other great astronomical activities for you to check out. They also cater to personal requests for groups. If you think a friend would love to enjoy a night under the stars, then why not organize a birthday there? They are very accommodating and welcome big groups for their many activities.

If you’re living in Barcelona, visiting one of these observatories offers you the rare opportunity escape the city and to clearly see the vivid stars sparkling in outer space. Far away from the bright lights of Barcelona, these locations are great when all you want is a little stargazing out in nature.
