Where to go for Opera in Barcelona

Opera is an ancient and beautiful form of art in which singers and musicians perform dramatic work through a combination of text and a musical score, which usually takes place in a theatrical setting.

Opera was born in Italy, in the end of the sixteenth century with Jacopo Peri’s Dafne, quickly spreading throughout Europe.

If you are visiting Barcelona and want to experience something new and spectacular, pay a visit to one of the city’s musical venues, where you can watch an Opera show.

Gran Teatre del Liceu

In 1994, the theatre building was consumed by a fire that completely destroyed the main room and set. This event shook the population, who deeply cherished the establishment. Eventually, the theatre was rebuilt, reopening its doors to the public in 1999.

Today, Gran Teatre del Liceu is the most popular venue in Barcelona for Opera, showcasing works like Nabucco and Otello by Giuseppe Verdi, Benvenuto Cellini by Hector Berlioz, Götterdämmerung by Richard Wagner, La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini, and Die Zauberflöte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Gran Teatre del Liceu is located at Les Rambles, 51-59, just a few steps after La Boqueria Market.
