Parks to go with children in Barcelona

Barcelona has plenty of options for children’s entertainment. One of the best things you can do with your children in Barcelona, for free, is to take them to spend a great day at the park so that they can have a good dose of healthy, fresh-aired fun!

This was one of the first public parks built in Barcelona. There are often events organized here as well as people who come to relax and spontaneously start playing music, dancing, or practicing their juggling moves. There are 3 main attractions in the park that may be interesting to explore with the children: the fountain, whose beauty you can appreciate while the wee ones run up and down the steps, an enormous sculpture of a wooly mammoth they can dangle from and take pictures with, and the lake, in which you can go for a nice boat ride. There is also the famous Barcelona Zoo, where you can spend a couple of hours with the children appreciating the beauty and daily habits of all the lovely creatures.

Parque de la España Industrial

What if you’re waiting for your train in Sants station to go South and you want a place to relax by the water so that the kids don’t get overwhelmed? Then Parc de l’Espanya Industrial is the place to go. This park used to be a textile factory and there are still some factory ruins remaining, which give it a sort of sci-fi look. The park is also famous for its dragon sculpture that doubles as a slide for children. Whether you are there with the kids just to kill time until the train comes or to spend a whole afternoon, Parc de l’Espanya Industrial is definitely a great place for both children and adults.

Parque de la Oreneta

In the upper area of Barcelona, there are several parks perfectly suited for children. In Sarrià, our favourite one is the Parque de La Oreneta. It is nice and green, perfect to spend the day and have a picnic. There is a small train that runs through the park that has become famous among local children.

Designed by Domenico Bagutti in 1792, the Parc del Laberint d’Horta is one of the oldest parks in the city. The park used to be a private property but today it is open to the public as a museum/garden. There are several interesting constructions inside Parc del Laberint d’Horta, which makes it an interesting place for an outing with the family. The main attraction is the maze in the center of the park. Retired people and children under 5 years old can enter for free. The park is free for all on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Parque Natural de Collserola

Another park to go with children in Barcelona is, of course, the famous Natural Park of Collserola. It is an extensive green area where you can go for nice walks with your children and stop for a picnic along the way. Sometimes you can even spot wild boars and their babies roaming around!
