Animal Friendly Places in El Raval

Barcelona is a dog lover’s city. The streets are perfect to meander around with your pooch in tow and  the surrounding hills are wonderful for longer walks. However, it can be tricky to know where to go to eat and drink with your dog in tow without being met with disapproving looks. Also, as a city with few green spaces, finding somewhere central to have a run around or throw a ball can be tricky. Here are El Raval’s best places to take your pet.

BioCentre

A wonderful vegetarian eatery, BioCentre opened in 1980 and has been attracting people ever since. A cosy and welcoming place, they offer workshops, lectures and food courses as well.

Bar Lobo

A bright and airy eatery serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Bar Lobo has a specious terrace that welcomes dogs.

Bacchanal Café

A bright, open space with large windows, Bacchanal Café is a lovely space to hang out with your pooch. The kitchen serves food all day ranging from salads, burgers, juices and bagels and you can grab a cocktail in the evening too. The atmosphere is relaxed and they even have free wifi.

Moritz Brewery

Dogs are welcome at the Moritz Brewery in El Raval, even in their delightful wine bar (dogs can go upscale too in Barcelona!). The Bar à Vins in the Moritz brewery is the ideal place to sample fine wines and grab a snack – the menu is extensive and includes lots to sample by the glass.

As a dog friendly city, many places in Barcelona welcome dogs and if you’re unsure, just ask.

If you’re looking for somewhere for a bit of fresh air with your pooch, why not head to the wonderful Els Jardins de Rubió i Lluch. This lovely space can be found in the courtyard of the old Hospital Santa Cruz and offer much needed space and peace in the hectic barrio of Raval.

Now, what if you’re more of a cat person? It can be difficult to keep a cat in the city with many flats not having any outside space. For those cat lovers who don’t have a cat, why not volunteer at Raval’s innovative Cat Park? El Jardinet dels Gats (Little Garden of Cats) was created by cat-lover Maria Dolores as a response to the area’s abandoned cats. The volunteer team gives vital support and holds fun fundraisers to support the park. The park also has a shop if you’re looking for the perfect gift for a fellow cat-lover. To find out about how to volunteer, visit their website: www.eljardinetdelsgats.org.
