Playing the lottery in Barcelona

Spanish people enjoy a good bet, which means there are a variety of lotteries that happen every week in Barcelona, managed by Loterías y Apuestas del Estado.

Let’s get to know them, shall we?

Lotería Nacional

It’s very easy to play the Lotería Nacional. All you have to do is to purchase a numbered ticket. The first prize awards the winner with 100,00€, the second 25,012€, and the third with 5,000€.

La Primitiva

To play La Primitiva you have to select 6 numbers from a table of 49 numbers and one complementary number. You can either choose the numbers yourself or ask the cashier for a random number selection. Each bet costs one euro.

There are five categories of prize that go from the 1st one in which you hit all six numbers, until the 5th one, in which you hit only 3 of them.

The draw takes place on Thursdays and Mondays.

EuroMilliones

Playing EuroMilliones is very similar to playing La Primitiva. You have to choose 5 numbers from 1 to 50 and 2 stars (complimentary numbers). You can place 1 to 5 bets on one single ticket, choosing 5 numbers and 2 starts for each bet, each one costing 2 euro.

The draw takes place on Tuesdays and Fridays and you can, when placing the bet, if you want to participate in only one draw or both.

BonoLoto

BonoLoto is the cheapest lottery by Loterías y Apuestas del Estado, costing only 50 cents per bet. Except that you have to pay a minimum of 1 euro per ticket, which means you have to place two bets.

To play BonoLoto you have to select 6 numbers from a table of 49. You need a minimum of three digits to match the draw in order to win a prize.

The draw takes place every day of the week, except for Sunday.

El Gordo

To play El Gordo you have to choose 5 numbers between 1 and 54 and a key number from 0 to 9. You can win a prize by getting at least two numbers right.

The draw for El Gordo takes place every Sunday night.

La Quiniela

A very different lottery than the ones mentioned above, La Quiniela is a sports-related lottery in which you bet on the results of fourteen football matches. For each match you have to choose one of three options: the first team wines (1), the second team wins (2) or the match ends in a draw (x). If you get at least 10 matches correctly, you win a prize. Each La Quiniela covers a single week’s matches.

Quinigol

Quinigol works basically the same way than La Quiniela, except it only covers 6 soccer matches and it allows you to choose a third option in which you bet the team will score three or more goals by entering the “M” symbol.

Each bet costs 1€.

Lototurf

Lototurf allows players to bet on horse racing by choosing 6 numbers from a table that goes from 1 to 31. Each best costs 1€.

Quintuple Plus

Quintuple Plus is another horse racing lottery in which you can bet in 5 horses that you think will in the first 5 races at the Turf meeting. Each bet costs 1€.
