Barcelona’s waterfront harbor, Port Vell was originally developed in the 80s for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. It has since become a very popular area in Barcelona, with a series of interesting places to visit.

Maremagnum

Located above the water at Moll d’Espanya, Maremagnum is one of the most popular shopping malls in the city, and the only one to remain open all days of the year. Maremagnum has several stores like Pimkie, Jack Jones, Pull&Bear, Desigual, Shana, and H&M, and a variety of restaurants and cafés like Subway and Starbucks. At Maremagnum there are a couple of terraces and lookout points where visitors can have a great view of Barcelona.

L’Aquarium de Barcelona

L’Aquarium de Barcelona was inaugurated in the Old Port of Barcelona in 1995. The enormous aquatic complex has a total of 35 aquariums displaying more than ten thousand animals from 450 different species. At L’Aquarium de Barcelona you can see animals from the great barrier reef of Australia, the Red Sea, the Caribbean Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea.

L’Aquarium de Barcelona organizes special activities like diving with sharks, L’Aquarium Quiz and birthday parties.

Palau del Mar

Palau de Mar is a large building that was created in the end of the 1800s to serve as a trade warehouse (Magatzems Generals de Comerç). Today, Palau de Mar is the location of Museu d’Historia de Catalunya (Catalan History Museum) and a variety of businesses and services that include Bestiari, a lovely book and souvenir shop, Costa Coffee, a famous British coffeehouse similar to Starbucks, restaurant and micro-brewery Black Lab Brewhouse & Kitchen (American+Asian fusion), and Mediterranean restaurants La Gavina, Emperador and La Mar de Bo.

El Cap de Barcelona

Created for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, El Cap de Barcelona is a surrealist sculpture that was created by American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. Known in English as simply “The Head”, this sculpture represents the artist’s first outdoor work using ceramic tile.

World Trade Center Barcelona

Founded in July 22nd of 1999, World Trade Center Barcelona is a business park with 40,000 m2 of rented office and a conference center, meeting and convention spaces.

Autoridad Portuaria de Barcelona

The building that houses Barcelona’s Port Authority has been recognized as a historical and artistic heritage of the city. It was designed in the year of 1903 and completed in 1907.
