In Barcelona food is not to be taken lightly. Grabbing a quick bite to eat or skipping a meal because there isn’t time really isn’t an option. Barcelona offers a wide range of quality restaurants offering various specialities and the best of Catalan cuisine. But it’s not only Catalan cuisine that’s on offer. Barcelona’s variety of international restaurants reflects its culturally diverse population. Au Port de la Lune, an authentic French bistro, is a fine example, praised for its friendly staff, ambience and, above all its top quality French cuisine. Its owner, originally from Bordeaux, offers a true taste of France, using only the best in premium produce carefully sourced from France. And with very reasonable prices this restaurant provides excellent value for money.
So, what do they have on offer? The set lunch menu (‘menu del dia’) changes on a daily basis and consists of either two or three courses, bread and one drink. With three courses totalling €11.50, you’re certainly not going to break the bank. In the evening, the a la carte menu includes a range of taste tingling offerings such as cheese and pate platters, French oysters, marinated pork loin and many other delights. The cassoulet, a traditional sausage, bean and duck stew, gets particularly raving reviews, with one satisfied customer describing it as “comforting and rich (…) the kind of food that tells you all is right with the world”. The restaurant’s ‘Menu Sud-Ouest’, which includes a starter, main course, cheese selection and dessert of the day comes in at 25 euros per person. For something even more exquisite, you can opt for the ‘Gran Menu du Sud Ouest’ which racks up at a somewhat pricier 45 euros per person. And to wash all this fine grub down there is a fine selection of wine flowing, sourced from the Bordeaux region, of course.
Situated on Pau Claris close to the classy Passeig de Gracia, Au Port de La Lune is open Monday through to Sunday, from 8 in the morning until late. The restaurant’s website provides full details of what is on offer. Additionally the bistro serves as a shop, selling wines, cheese, champagne and other quality French products for you to take home and enjoy at your leisure.
In Au Port de la Lune expect to be served promptly and with smile by exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, even when the restaurant is full. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed. But do be warned, this is a place where the steak is only cooked rare and coca cola is absolutely not on offer!
At the very least come here for a unique experience. And be sure to leave satisfied.
