Many people are interested in rallies and automobile competitions, and in Spain they are becoming even more and more popular. The industry has evolved and in our country we have also been able to enjoy Formula 1. Ever since automobile sports have developed, the hobby of driving cars has grown as well. What you might not know, is that sports competitions, ​​especially rallies, have been held in Spain and in Barcelona for many years. One of them is the Rally Barcelona-Sitges, a competition that has been held for more than 60 years. Today ShBarcelona wants to tell you all about this very popular competition in Catalonia.

The Rally Barcelona-Sitges, one of the best vintage car competitions in Spain

The incentive of the Barcelona-Sitges Rally, in addition to the competition itself, is to be able to enjoy the beauty of the cars that were built up until 1928 and motorcycles up until 1938. The event will take place between March 16 and 18, 2019, and it will start at the Plaza Sant Jaume in Barcelona and will end at the Plaza de la Fragata in Sitges. Sitges is a well-known seaside town in the province of Barcelona. The provisional schedule of the competition is as follows: from February 25 to March 16 (not on Sundays) you can see an exhibition at the Illa Diagonal Shopping Center of 6 vintage cars, from 10:00 to 21:30. There will be a model of a Type A at the exhibition, the car which inspired the 2019 poster and which was the first car manufactured by Citroën, celebrating its centenary this year. On Saturday March 16, 2019 at 10:00, ​​participants will arrive at the Illa Diagonal Shopping Center in Barcelona and stay until 17:00. On the Avinguda Diagonal, the park in front of the shopping center will be reserved for the technical control of all participating cars. It will take place from 10:00 until 17:30. On Sunday, March 17 there will be a breakfast from 8:30 to 9:30 in the Plaza Sant Jaume with participants dressed in clothing originating from the time period of their car.

At 10:30 the vehicles will depart and start the rally route.  The race will be inaugurated by the Mayor of Barcelona Ada Colau. The route of the rally will be as follows: From Barcelona (Plaza Sant Jaume – Ferran – Ramblas – Plaza Catalunya – Ronda University – Ronda Sant Antoni – Sepulveda – Parallel – Plaza España – Plaza – Badal – Constitución), towards El Hospitalet de Llobregat (Santa Eulalia – Enric Prat de la Riba – Barcelona), Cornellà de Llobregat (Carretera de L’Hospitalet – Av. De la Fama – Tirso de Molina – Av. Barcelona – onto the C-245), San Boi, Viladecans, Gavà, Castelldefels, onto the C-246, Costas del Garraf and arrival at the Port of Sitges-Aiguadolç, at approximately 12.00. Once you arrive at the Plaza de la Fragata, which is estimated to be around 12:30 hours, you can enjoy different activities, from a concert to tasting some food, and raffles for wine and champagne tastings.
