Rambla de Catalunya – The other famous Rambla

When you hear people talking about rambla, your mind immediately goes to Las Ramblas, the famous promenade that goes from Plaça Catalunya all the way to the sea.

But if you turn the opposite direction, walking North, you will find another famous rambla. Rambla de Catalunya is one of the most important streets in the Eixample district, a hip and trendy area where you can find a variety of shops, restaurants and other services.

Rambla de Catalunya starts at Plaça Catalunya and goes all the way to Avinguda Diagonal.

Culture & Art

On the number 23 of Rambla de Catalunya you will find Club Coliseum, a movie theater from Grup Balaña, showing some of the latest releases, all dubbed in Spanish.

Further up, on number 37, is Casa del Libro, a popular Catalan bookstore that sells books, games, diaries, calendars, reading lamps and much more. Casa del Libro sells mostly Castillian and Catalan books, but they have a good selection of books in other languages, like English, French and German.

There two important galleries at Rambla de Catalunya. Located at number 47, Galería Ingacio de Lassaletta represents artists like Nei Alberti, Dominika Berger and Miguel Rasero. Three numbers further is Galería Metropolitana de Barcelona, representing artists like Youssef  Ahmed, Mohamed Kanoo and Paolo Maggis.

At Rambla de Catalunya you will find a number of notable buildings like Casa Pia Batlló by Josep Vilaseca I Casanovas at number 17, Casa Fargas by Enric Sagnier I Valevecchia at number 47, and Church of La Mare de Déu de Montsió by Joan Martorell, at number 115.

You will also find two amusing sculptures by Josep Granyer, Meditación, which features a bull sitting in the same position as Rodin’s “The Thinker”, and Coqueta a flirty giraffe.
