Visiting Barcelona and looking for a great restaurant? Where to start? There are so many quality restaurants in the city, offering such a variety of different recipes from all over the world, that it can be quite overwhelming when choosing where to go for lunch or dinner. Too much of a good thing is never a problem, though – especially when we’re here to help you out.
If you’d like to stay away from big tourist crowds and instead enjoy a peaceful meal in a less busy area of the city, we highly recommend that you head over to the Horta-Guinardó district, where you’ll find some of the best restaurants in the Barcelona – often at much lower prices than in the more tourism-oriented neighbourhoods near the centre.

Located in the oldest part of the Horta neighbourhood, this charming family restaurant has the spirit of a traditional local establishment while serving innovative dishes with a strong Mediterranean influence. With a very friendly staff that will welcome you like an old friend even on your first visit, Can Xus is a great choice not only for large meals but also for some delicious tapas in the afternoon or at night.
When it comes to its quality-price ratio, we say it’s pretty excellent – you can have a fantastic meal here (drinks included) for only 11.75€. Their menu is filled with quality, mouth-watering options, but if we had to recommend just one thing for you to try, it would have to be their incredible Gazpacho.

A Estrela Galega is the place to go for seafood in the district of Horta-Guinardó. Combining an attentive service with original, impeccably presented dishes, this is a traditional Catalan restaurant with an informal and unpretentious atmosphere.
With prices that are an absolute bargain considering the high-quality of its food, it’s a well-kept secret even within the district –since there’s not even a sign at the door, the restaurant is somewhat “hidden” and can easily go unnoticed. Lucky for you, we’re here to tell you about it, so make good use of that privileged information and try it at least once – we’re sure you won’t regret it.

La Cuineta d’Horta is a bit more expensive than our previous suggestions, with an average price per person of 20€. Cosy and inviting, this restaurant has a menu filled with flavourful dishes that mix Bolivian and Catalan recipes to great effect.
With a decoration that represents the history and culture of Bolivia, it’s a great opportunity for you to briefly visit South America by way of Barcelona. Highly recommended for those looking for something different and unique.
