Best sandwiches in Barcelona

Are you visiting Barcelona and want to make a snack without having to sit down to eat at a restaurant? Have you come to spend some time in the city and have to eat sometime away but don’t have much time? Do you simply feel like enjoying the freshest typical Mediterranean cuisine products? Don’t be tempted to go to some fast food and read carefully our suggestions of where you can eat the best sandwiches in town. You’d make your stay even more pleasant if you choose one of our long term rental apartments in Barcelona.

Hugo Bar: This bar offers the chance to taste the best Chilean traditional dishes, both to locals and to immigrants missing their country. In Hugo Bar you can try the best “completo” (kind of a sandwich or hot dog with avocado, mayonnaise, meat, tomato or whatever you like in it), tasty “empanadas”, delicious ceviche of all kinds, everything while drinking a pisco sour or a piscola. The place is tiny and tends to be filled up quickly, so I recommend you not getting there too late (either at noon or at night) if you want to eat in a table.

 Address: Rec Comtal, 6.

Can Conesa: this place is very close to Hugo Bar and is probably the best-known one to eat a sandwich in Barcelona. It was founded in 1951 and specializes in the production of hot sandwiches, with or without gluten depending on the costumer’s needs. The size of the sandwiches is a little disappointing if you’re really hungry and you may not find a table to sit down and have your meal, but the taste of the fresh produce and the quality of customer service will be more than satisfying. Its location in the tourist center of the city is ideal if you are walking around the area visiting the most important monuments of Barcelona.

Al Atlas: in this place, in the heart of Raval district, you will find the most complete (and caloric) sandwich of this very lively area of the city. The bar is run by Pakistanis and the costumers are the same nationality, indicating that the products and dishes are truly good. You can choose each and every one of the ingredients that go into your kebab sandwich with a really tender bread: chicken or beef, lettuce, tomato, pickles, “mortadela”, tuna, cheese, black or green olives, corn, etc. You can even choose french fries to go into your great “bocadillo”! And all for only about 3 euros … This is a sandwich to eat with both hands…

Address: Rambla del Raval, 30.

Sagàs: the restaurant offers a wide range of sandwiches made with recipes from around the world following the long tradition of the Catalan countryside. The products of these sandwiches, from the bread to the very last ingredient, are fresh, high quality and from Rovira brothers’ farms and lands. Rovira brothers are Sagàs owners and holders of a Michelin star restaurant called Els Casals, in the Berguedà. From the menu you will choose between a reinterpretation of the classic burger, an innovative German Hot Dog or a traditional Korean snack.

Address: Pla de Palau, 13.

Mas Gourmets: is a franchise with 13 stores in Barcelona and another 2 in Madrid, owned by Jordi Mas, recognized as Young Entrepreneur 2011 by the Independent Association of Young Entrepreneurs of Catalonia, thanks to the effort he put on this initiative. Mas Gourmets franchises sell delicatessen products that can be tasted in a reserved area for customers. The more acclaimed dishes are “paleta” sandwich (ham sandwich),  iberian ham and truffle “mixto”, the egg “botifarra” with prawns, banana and bacon “pincho”, or mortadella truffle, among many others. Is it your mouth already watering?

Fidel: this is a very typical bar in Raval district, one of the best known among the local population, and it’s very crowded at lunchtime and at dinner time. They also have a single dishes menu with salad and pasta or lasagna. The salads are delicious; from the Cuscus salad to the Greek salad, the Egyptian salad or the Cuban salad and its sandwiches (over 60) are suitable for all tastes. You can’t leave without trying one of their homemade cakes!
