Sofar Sounds: Secret concerts in Barcelona

If you’re a fan of live music, Barcelona has got you covered! There are festivals and concerts everywhere, pretty much throughout the whole year.

Sofar Sounds is the name of a project that brings artists closer to their audiences in cities all over the world, and Barcelona is no exception. It’s based on a simple idea – by signing up, you become part of an exclusive group of people that gets access to secret concerts in intimate locations. With simpler setups and smaller crowds, music is the star and artists get a chance to connect with music fans in a way that larger venues or festivals don’t allow. Previous Barcelona performances have featured artists such as El Último Vecino, Núria Graham, Delorentos, Berlinist and Clubz.

Just go to the official Sofar Sounds website and sign-up. Then, go to “your account” and click “edit profile” to fill-in your data. Choose Barcelona as your Home City, check the boxes to make sure you’ll receive information on upcoming events and… voilá! You’re in! Don’t get discouraged if you don’t make it on the list for an event – the organizers try to make the crowds as diverse as possible and give everyone a chance, so you’ll eventually get your turn.

Your living room is a concert hall

One very cool thing about Sofar is that you can apply to host a show. Yes, that’s right. You can have a band play in your living room, your kitchen, your attic…

The process is, again, quite simple – just fill out a form detailing your location and “venue” capacity. Your place will then be evaluated by Sofar’s Barcelona team, who will contact you if they consider it right for a show. The team will also take care of everything before, during and after the show, so you don’t need to worry about setting up or cleaning up. One big advantage of hosting your own show – other than having awesome artists play at your house – is the ability to reserve space for your group of friends.

If you’re a musician, you can apply to perform at Sofar Sounds. The process is pretty much the same, just sign-up as a performer, link to some of your and wait to be selected. Sofar doesn’t distinguish between famous and unknown artists – it’s the music that is important – so if you’re just starting out, it can be a great opportunity for you to start building an audience.

Whether as a guest, a host or a musician, we hope you get the chance to participate in the Sofar Sounds experience, as it really is a one-of-a-kind project.

As always, don’t forget to tell us all about it using the comment box below.

Enjoy a lot of live music and have fun!
