The creation of Swedish Fit

Swedish Fit was created by Claude and Lena Coury, a Swedish couple who decided to open their own gym in Paris after finishing their studies. They designed their classes around the Friskis & Svetis movement that became popular in Sweden in the late 1970s. The idea was that exercise should be fun, dynamic, and incorporate things like gymnastics and movement in a group setting. The methodology quickly caught on and the Courys decided to take it to Paris. Swedish Fit proved to be a great success and soon this chain of gyms expanded all over France, the UK, Canada, Denmark, and now Spain.

Methodology of the classes

The group classes at Swedish Fit were developed by doctors and specialists to design a complete and balanced workout that is enjoyable, aerobic, and easy on the body while still working different muscles. The classes combine sequences of movements that incorporate cardio and aerobic exercises that help to increase cardiovascular function, build endurance and stamina, as well as strengthen muscles to help improve balance and flexibility. Classes consist of some warm-up movements followed by cardio to get the heart rate up and strengthening movements to target different muscle groups. There are then recovery activities and stretching to cool down and help the body recover.
